Alternatively, you can go for a happier and muted shade of the dark colour you are considering (such as royal blue instead of navy blue; bottle green, emerald or olive green).
Another way to incorporate dark-themed colours into your wedding or bridesmaids’ style is to use the dark colour as the base of the dress design, and not as the main design.
For example, down below, where I talked about the floral design bridesmaid dress trend and also the short bridesmaid trend, observe how in the dark, short bridesmaid dress picture, the dark colour was in the design but did not overshadow the lighter colour.
That made the outfit look softer and wedding-like. That’s an example of another way to make dark-coloured bridesmaid dress work.
3. Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses Trend (Non-Matching Colours)
Have you ever wondered ‘must bridesmaids’ dresses match’? Traditionally, bridesmaids wore matching dress colours in the same style, but we’re seeing millennial brides shift away from that trend to create their own rules. We’re totally on board with this trend, as looks stunning when done right.
The ways we see Nigerian bridesmaids rocking the mismatched gowns trend include wearing (a) the same colour but different style of dresses, or (b) same style but different colours, or even (c) same colour but different fabrics/ materials, and (d) same style but different shades of the same colour, or (e) same colour, same dress cut/ silhouette but different sleeve styles or different necklines.

This trend is a cool way to give your bridesmaids a chance to have their say. For example, if you choose the dress style, you may let them pick the colour(s) from a specific colour family that matches your wedding theme.
Alternatively, you may choose the dress colour, you may allow them to choose the styles that flatter their figure.
For the mismatched bridesmaid dress to work, it’s important to pick colours that look good together, such as picking one colour and then different shades of that colour or a close complementary shade (like in the pictures above). Also, keep the number of colours minimal.
