7. Illusion Neckline Wedding Gowns

Suitable for: This neckline style is perfect for brides afraid or shy to wear a regular strapless gown. Similar to a strapless but with more coverage. So, if you like the strapless wedding gown style but not comfortable with exposing your skin, go for an illusion neckline dress.
Illusion neckline wedding gowns have been a timeless classic for brides and celebrities here in Nigeria and abroad. Our girl, Toke Makinwa’s court wedding gown to Maje had an illusion neckline. Kate Middleton’s wedding gown had both illusion neckline and illusion sleeves. Ivanka Trump also wore an Illusion neckline wedding dress in 2009 when she married Jared Kushner.
In some dresses, the illusion lace (top) part of this neckline flows into the back, and the lace would feature beautiful beaded designs or tattoo lace appliques. Sometimes, illusion lace runs down to the sleeves, so that you could also have illusion sleeves (long, short or capped). Illusion neckline wedding dresses are subtle and sexy at the same time.
What’s an illusion neckline? Put simply, a wedding gown with an illusion neckline is a version of strapless gowns where the exposed top part of the dress is covered with a sheer, see-through /transparent lace (illusion lace). The lace gives an ‘illusion’ of a covering.
What’s the difference between a regular strapless wedding gown and illusion style wedding gown (you may ask)? In the illusion neckline, a transparent, sheer lace fabric (illusion lace) covers the top part of the dress bodice, so that the bride’s chest and shoulders are not exposed (unlike with Strapless wedding dresses).
When this type of lace is used on the sleeves, the wedding gown is also referred to as Illusion sleeves wedding gown. Illusion sleeves are available in all styles of sleeves – sleeveless, long/ short sleeves, etc.
